The Spring League cancels remaining games due to rising COVID-19 cases

The Spring League has had its schedule cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

TSL had planned to play games with six teams over four weeks in a San Antonio bubble city using the Alamodome.

“Upon the return of the COVID-19 results from yesterday’s testing, The Spring League has concluded that it will not be possible to proceed with either of our scheduled Week 4 games,” the league said in a statement.

“As the cases of Coronavirus continue to surge nationally, we believe it is in the best interest of the health and safety of our players, coaches, and staff to conclude the regular season at TSL2020.”

There were a number of people with CFL connections who were involved with the TSL season with quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson serving as the biggest name.

Former Stamps’ running back Romar Morris was in the league, as were 2019 Calgary draft pick defensive back Malcolm Lee, former CFL cover man DaShaun Amos, and Cowtown pivot-turned-coach Drew Tate.

Defensive end Mason Bennett, a first-round selection of the Ticats in 2020, was also part of the league with former Hamilton kicker Lirim Hajrullahu.

TSL plans to return for a spring season in 2021.
