CFL evaluating Edmonton as potential bubble city for 2021 season

According to Rod Pedersen, Edmonton is being looked at as a CFL bubble city in 2021.

The federal government approved Toronto and Edmonton as hub cities for the NHL’s return to play plan amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. All 24 teams entered bubbles in the two major Canadian cities as the league completed its playoffs and Stanley Cup Final without one single positive case of the coronavirus. The Tampa Bay Lightning won the NHL championship at Rogers Place.

Canada’s chief public health officer states NHL hub city principles would apply to CFL

Winnipeg was tentatively chosen as the hub city if the CFL played this year. However, after a league-specific financial package was denied by the federal government, the CFL cancelled its season. Commissioner Randy Ambrosie and the board of governors are exploring scenarios for how to play football in the new year.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau knows the CFL is important to many Canadians, but that doesn’t mean it’s prudent to allow the league to play during the virus crisis unless strict medical guidelines are followed. The NHL put a blueprint together and the CFL appears to be evaluating its feasibility.
