Canadian offensive lineman Ryan Hunter signs with Los Angeles Chargers

Canadian offensive lineman Ryan Hunter has signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Hunter visited the team facility on Tuesday and inked a practice squad contract on Thursday.

The 25-year-old spent two seasons in Kansas City and won a Super Bowl with the Chiefs last February. He was released by the team following training camp in September.

Hunter went unselected in the 2018 NFL draft, but signed with KC immediately afterwards as a priority undrafted free agent. He impressed during rookie training camp and earned the chance to work his way onto the 53-man roster by developing on the practice squad. The six-foot-three, 316-pound blocker has played in three career NFL games.

The Toronto Argonauts selected Hunter in the first round of the 2018 CFL draft.

The North Bay, Ont. started 12 games at left tackle in 2017, 12 at right tackle in 2016, 14 at left guard in 2015 and played in all 14 games during his Bowling Green State University career. Hunter was an academic All-Mid-American Conference and MAC distinguished scholar-athlete in all four seasons. He majored in criminal justice.

Hunter has earned over $370,000 USD playing in the NFL and brings experience to an LA line looking to better protect 2020 first-round draft pick Justin Herbert.
