Former Stamps linebacker Wynton McManis works out for New Orleans Saints

Former Calgary Stampeders linebacker Wynton McManis worked out for the New Orleans Saints on Thursday, according to The MMQB’s Albert Breer.

He decided to opt out of his CFL contract on Monday, the first day players could do so. McManis was in the second year of a two-year pact. The 25-year-old will be a free agent should he return to the CFL.

McManis had a breakout campaign in 2019, starting 15 games, recording 86 defensive tackles, nine special teams’ tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble. In his two previous seasons, McManis was a core special teamer and led the league with 25 special teams’ tackles in 2018.

The graduate of the University of Memphis went unselected in the 2016 NFL Draft before signing with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent. He earned a spot on the team’s practice roster before being elevated to the active roster in late December. McManis was waived by the 49ers before the 2017 season and made his way to Calgary.

In order to enter the Saints facility, McManis passed three COVID-19 tests.
