Canadian receiver Kevin Mital returns home, transfers from Syracuse to Laval

The Vanier Cup may have been canceled but that hasn’t stopped Canadian university powerhouse Laval University from adding a big time prospect.

Receiver Kevin Mital was a top recruit coming out of Cegep Andre Grasset and was one of three high profile Quebecois players who committed to the University of Syracuse in 2019, a roster that had five total Canadians last year. The team added two more Quebec recruits for next season.

However, according to a report from TVA Sports analyst Charles-Antoine Sinotte, Mital has now decided to return home. As a star in Quebec, Mital brought in 35 career touchdowns and 2,438 career receiving yards, both CEGEP Division I records.

The former CEGEP all-star redshirted in 2019 and the “current situation has contributed a lot” to his decision to return to Quebec. Players have begun to assemble on NCAA campuses in anticipation of a 2020 season. Syracuse has only had a handful of positive tests, but fellow Atlantic Coast Conference school Clemson University had 37 athletes contract the virus.

U Sports football has cancelled inter-conference play in 2020 due to COVID-19, but the RSEQ remains the only conference that has not yet cancelled its entire season. Whether they play in 2020 or not, Mital will be a big addition for a premier program.
