Former Argos OL, Colts GM Ryan Grigson hired by Browns

Former Canadian Football League offensive lineman Ryan Grigson has found a new role in the NFL.

Grigson was hired by the Cleveland Browns as their senior football advisor.

“I’ve told them I’m an open book and they’re welcome to bounce things off me — and I know they’re very open to that — just through things I’ve learned, the wisdom gained and trial and error, victories, mistakes, successes,” Grigson told ClevelandBrowns.com.

“I feel like I have an experienced background and I’ve been fortunate the vast majority of it has been with winning programs.”

The 48-year-old Grigson won a Grey Cup with the Toronto Argonauts in 1997, but suffered a career-ending back injury which forced him to retire. He secured a job with the Saskatchewan Roughriders as a pro scout in 1998 and rose through the pro ranks, earning the Indianapolis Colts general manager position in 2012.

During his first season in Indy, the Colts had a nine win turnaround and made the playoffs with an 11-5 record. That earned Grigson NFL executive of the year honours. In January 2017, Grigson was relieved of his GM duties. The Colts produced a regular season record of 49-31 (.613 winning percentage) while Grigson was general manager.

Grigson can be an experienced sounding board for rookie Browns GM Andrew Berry.
