Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation cuts pay for Stampeders’ employees

The Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation has let Stampeders employees know they will be taking pay cuts.

This obviously doesn’t include players who are not being paid at this time. The #CFL & #CFLPA will discuss the impact of any delay and games missed on player salaries and all players will presumably be treated the same. @CFLonTSN

The ownership group was founded in 1980 as the Calgary Flames Limited Partnership. After the CFLP acquired the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League, Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League, Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League, and the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League, it turned into the CSEC in 2012.

The CSEC is privately owned by the majority of people who came together to form the CFLP. Norman Murray Edwards is the chair of the group. Originally, the CSEC was not going to pay event staff for remaining games on the Flames, Hitmen and Roughnecks schedules, but the ownership reversed course after players started a GoFundMe page for the affected workers.

The COVID-19 pandemic is continuing to cause great uncertainly for everyone. We continue to monitor the situation and evaluate any and all options that we may be able to undertake to help us navigate this very fluid situation. 

The Stampeders are run smartly by president and general manager John Hufnagel. However, if TSN’s Farhan Lalji’s report holds true, Hufnagel, head coach Dave Dickenson and all the men working under them will feel the pinch.
