Toronto Argonauts quarterback Matt Nichols is living in quarantine just like many others in Canada.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit our home and native land. As of March 18, there have been 569 confirmed cases in Canada, 189 in Ontario with 102 of those in Toronto. Nichols is spreading the message about the importance hand-washing can play in helping stop the disease from spreading.

“I need ya’ll to huddle up for a minute. If you’re anything like me, then you’re washing your hands a lot right now. And trust me this 20 to 30 seconds goes by a lot slower than the 20-second play clock I’m used to,” Nichols said.

“So, let’s use this time to think about a better future like my first start at BMO or throwing touchdowns to my new receivers or buying my offensive line dinner after a sack-less game.”

The Argos signed Nichols to a three-year contract through the 2022 season in February. He visited Toronto in January for a physical and meetings with the double blue coaches and personnel staff.

“It may seem super simple, but washing your hands is one of the most effective things you can do. Wash you hands after every social interaction, before and after you touch your eyes, your nose, or your mouth,” Nichols said.

“I’m going to continue washing my hands so I can see all of you soon.”

Commissioner Randy Ambrosie cancelled the CFL combines amid the ongoing COVID-19 situation while the league is planning for contingencies.
