The Riders have filled one of their bigger holes heading into free agency by re-signing veteran linebacker Solomon Elimimian to a one year contract extension.

The news was originally broken by 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk ahead of the opening of free agency.

Despite missing most of training camp and the first three games of the 2019 season, Elimimian was named a West Division All-Star after picking up 88 tackles, four sacks and one forced fumble in 15 games. Elimimian added another eight takes in the Riders west final loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Through 133 career games, Elimimian has made 833 tackles, 36 special teams stops, 33 sacks, eight interceptions and nine forced fumbles. The Lions won the 2011 Grey Cup on home turf with Elimimian as the club’s defensive leader.

That’s not all the hardware that Elimimian has on his shelf at home, he’s also won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 2010, Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2014 and 2016 and became the first defensive player in the modern era to win Most Outstanding Player in 2014.

Elimimian still holds the CFL’s single season tackles record with 144 in 2017.
