Bombers’ Danny McManus drops out from Alouettes general manager consideration

Current Winnipeg Blue Bombers assistant general manager Danny McManus has been eliminated from the Montreal Alouettes general manager consideration.

McManus interviewed with Als president Patrick Boivin, consultant Wally Buono and head coach Khari Jones in Vancouver last week.

The former CFL passer has served as an assistant GM in Winnipeg for the past six years while being the club’s director of U.S. scouting. McManus helps current Bombers’ general manager Kyle Walters with the negotiation list and facilitate off-season free agent camps in the United States.

McManus spent five seasons prior working for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats as a regional scout and then head U.S. scout. He first joined the Ticats staff in 2008 as an offensive assistant. The 54-year-old was the quarterback of the last Hamilton team to win the Grey Cup in 1999.

McManus played 17 seasons in the CFL with Winnipeg (1990-1992), the B.C. Lions (1993-1995), Edmonton Eskimos (1996-1997), Hamilton (1998-2005) and Calgary Stampeders (2006). Upon his retirement after the 2006 season, McManus was second all-time in passing yards with 53,255.

McManus was a member of three Grey Cup championship teams, the Bombers (1990), Lions (1994) and Ticats (1999). He was named the MVP of Hamilton’s Grey Cup win in 1999. All of the accolades led to McManus being inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
