Bob Slowik to return as Alouettes defensive coordinator

Montreal Alouettes head coach Khari Jones is keeping defensive coordinator Bob Slowik on staff, according to Montreal Gazette reporter Herb Zurkowsky.

The 65-year-old Slowik was hired by former Als head coach Mike Sherman with no prior CFL experience before the 2019 season. Slowik spent five seasons with Green Bay while Sherman was the bench boss and general manager for the Packers from 2000-2005.

Slowik was the defensive coordinator for one season alongside Sherman in Green Bay and held the same title with the Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos over 20-plus years coaching in the NFL. After a 2004 schedule in which the Packers ranked 25th in yards allowed (over 346 yards per game) while giving up 33 touchdown passes (a team record), Sherman elected to let Slowik go and hire a different defensive coordinator.

Jones inked a three-year contract extension with Montreal and has retained Slowik.
