Ticats’ Simoni Lawrence discussed head shot with Zach Collaros

Ticats linebacker Simoni Lawrence has spoken to Zach Collaros and made amends for the head shot laid in Week 1.

“We talked for a while, we talked about everything. Everything’s good. We wished each other our best and that’s just what it is. At the end of the day, I know how Zach’s built, he’s a competitive dude,” Lawrence said.

“Simoni and I have talked and it’s behind us. We’ve moved forward and I hope everybody here can appreciate that. It’s a non-factor. It was a good conversation,” Collaros said.

Lawrence knocked Collaros from the game on third offensive snap of the season. The 30-year-old pivot suffered a concussion and didn’t play in a regular season game until Week 20. After a hearing, commissioner Randy Ambrosie doled out a two-game suspension for Lawrence stating the hit was “dangerous and reckless“.

Since the incident, Collaros recovered and led the Bombers to road playoff wins in Calgary and Regina. Winnipeg made the Grey Cup for the first time since 2011 and are trying to end the long draught without a title, the last one came in 1990. Lawrence and Collaros spent four seasons together in Hamilton.

“I think it’s remarkable what he’s done. To come back and not play football all season and just compete like that in the playoffs and beat two really great teams, that’s impressive to me,” Lawrence said.

“I just think that’s remarkable, I think he did a great job and I’m proud of him for that.”
