There was something in the air on Friday night in Regina.
TSN’s dynamic duo of Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole recorded a live episode of their podcast at the Conexus Arts Centre with Cody Fajardo as a special guest. The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback is expected to play in Sunday’s West Final, but may not start due to a back injury.
Onrait led the crowd in a rendition of “Fernando” by Swedish pop sensation ABBA, replacing the title lyric with the name “Fajardo.”
Onrait also urged Rider fans to demand the song be played every time the West Division’s Most Outstanding Player nominee throws or runs for a touchdown so they can serenade him at Mosaic Stadium.
The song was a smash hit in 1976, selling six million copies worldwide in its first nine months on the market. If Fajardo leads his team to victory in Sunday’s West Final it’s possible we’ll see it make a resurgence with members of Rider Nation playing it on loop.
