Grymes was emotional on the sidelines after learning about the setback. He played in 16 games making 54 tackles and one interception during his first season on the Left coast.

He quietly played at an all-star level in 2018 even though he didn’t receive the distinction. Many teams throughout the league would have liked to put Grymes in their starting lineup during free agency, but the Lions had the inside track. Ed Hervey was the Edmonton Eskimos general manager when Grymes signed his first CFL contract in 2013.

Grymes has upper echelon cover skills and plays the run well as a physical defensive back. The 28-year-old played his first five CFL seasons with the Eskimos, making 64 starts. He had a career-high 58 tackles last season to go along with three interceptions.

Over 82 games Grymes has 235 tackles, 12 interceptions, two forced fumbles, two defensive touchdowns and one sack. He was a CFL all-star in 2015, the same year Edmonton captured the Grey Cup with Grymes in the secondary.
