Michael “Pinball” Clemons takes over as Argos general manager; John Murphy promoted

Michael Clemons takes over as general manager of the Toronto Argos.

Clemons has been around and involved with the double blue since September. Jim Popp was fired from the role.

Pinball spent 12 seasons with the boatmen as a star running back, leading them to three Grey Cups. The Canadian Football Hall of Famer earned the Most Outstanding Player award in 1990. Clemons recorded 25,438 combined yards with the Argos, a CFL record, while winning three Grey Cup championships as a player.

He served twice as head coach of the Argos putting together a 67-54-1 win-loss record while earning a Grey Cup championship in 2004. Clemons served as Argos team president from November 2001 to September 2002 and chief executive officer (December 2007 to November 2008) before being appointed vice chair of the team in May 2009, a role he has held since.

Former Calgary Stampeders and Saskatchewan Roughriders assistant general manager John Murphy is promoted to the vice president of player personnel role. Murphy joined the Riders before the 2016 season, coming over from the Stamps when Chris Jones took over as head coach, general manager and vice president of football operations. He has two Grey Cup championships on his resume, 2008 and 2014 both while in Calgary.
