Los Angeles Chargers place former CFL receiver Dontrelle on injured reserve

The Los Angeles Chargers have placed former CFL receiver Dontrelle Inman on injured reserve.

Inman made eight catches for 132 yards in the first four games of the 2019 season prior to suffering a quad injury against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4. It means he’ll be out at least eight weeks and potentially the rest of the season. Each team can only bring two players back from IR per year.

The 30-year-old earned his first NFL roster spot with the bolts in 2014. That opportunity came after Inman stood out for the Toronto Argonauts. He played two seasons in double blue catching 100 passes for 1,542 yards and 11 touchdowns throughout the 2012 and 2013 campaigns north of the border – a key part of the Argos’ 2012 Grey Cup-winning team.

Inman signed with the San Diego turned LA Chargers where he spent parts of four seasons. After that stint, Inman played for the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts the last two years respectively.

The Charleston, South Carolina native was in training camp with the New England Patriots but asked for his release on August 18. The same day former Saskatchewan Roughriders and Calgary Stampeders neg lister Josh Gordon was allowed to rejoin the Patriots.

According to ESPN beat reporter Mike Reiss, the six-foot-three, 205-pound Inman signed a one-year contract with the Pats in May that included a $200,000 signing bonus, $100,000 of his base salary guaranteed, and a $100,000 reporting bonus.

Coming into the 2019 season, Inman has 158 receptions for 2,101 yards and 11 touchdowns in the NFL. His best season came in 2016 with Philip Rivers throwing him passes. That year Inman caught 58 balls for 810 yards and four touchdowns.

Inman had a team-best five catches for 76 yards in the 30-10 victory over the Dolphins. Another productive campaign seemed to be on its way for Inman until the injury happened.
