SFU Defensive Coordinator wants Canadian senior’s crazy play to go viral

Simon Fraser University may have lost their home-opener to the South Dakota School of Mines by a final score of 26-7 but it was not without its highlights. Defensive Coordinator Taylor Summers has taken to social media to draw attention to an unbelievable play made by senior defensive back Matt Duda.

The video, posted to Instagram, features the Vancouver native Duda diving out of bounds to corral a throw away by the School of Mines quarterback. Unable to get his feet down, Duda turns in mid-air and chest passes the ball to a teammate before he fully exits play. It was an impressive feat of athleticism that might be more fitting on a Hollywood screen than on top of Burnaby Mountain.

As a Canadian born senior, Duda will be eligible for the upcoming 2020 CFL draft. While his 5’9 frame may hold him back from top prospect consideration, plays like this one will certainly stand out when teams look at the tape.

While the video has not yet succeeded in “going viral”, it has to be ranked as one of the craziest college plays to take place on Canadian soil.

The SFU Clan remain Canada’s only NCAA team, playing in Division 2, and will resume their season at home on Saturday against Azusa Pacific.
