Bombers to induct Bob Cameron to Ring of Honour at IG Field

Bob Cameron’s name is about to be displayed at IG Field — permanently.

The Winnipeg Football Club announced on Friday that its punter of 23 years (1980-2002) would become the twelfth player inducted to the club’s Ring of Honour.

Cameron played quarterback at Acadia University, winning the Hec Crighton Trophy in 1977 as the country’s most outstanding collegiate football player. Drafted by the Eskimos that same year, it would take three seasons for Cameron to sign with the Blue Bombers.

The Ancaster, Ontario native played in 353 consecutive CFL regular season games, an all-time record. A four-time CFL all-star and three-time Grey Cup champion, Cameron is already a member of four halls of fame: Winnipeg Football Club, 2003; Nova Scotia Football Hall of Fame, 2009; Canadian Football Hall of Fame, 2010; and the Acadia University Athletics Hall of Fame, 2013.

The Bombers announced the Ring of Honour in 2016 and inducted nine players in its inaugural year: Chris Walby; Ken Ploen; Gerry James; Milt Stegall; Dieter Brock; Leo Lewis; Bud Grant; Herb Gray; and Doug Brown.

The club has inducted one additional player in each subsequent year, starting with Jack Jacobs in 2017 and Fritz Hanson in 2018.

Cameron, 65, still resides in Winnipeg with his family.
