Canadian defensive lineman Mathieu Betts has signed contract with the Edmonton Eskimos.

It’s a two pus one deal with an NFL option window after the 2020 season.

Betts was the lone member of the 2019 CFL draft class to participate in an NFL training camp. The former Laval star signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent back in April, but he was released among the final training camp cuts.

Betts had an excellent pro day and made the most of his trip to the East-West Shrine Game in January, meeting with over half of the NFL’s teams. He recorded 35.5 sacks in 33 games with the Laval University Rouge et Or, winning the J. P. Metras Trophy for three consecutive seasons.

Edmonton picked Betts third overall in May.
