Riders, Ticats sell out Labour Day weekend games; focus shifts to Stampeders

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Saskatchewan Roughriders have sold out their respective Labour Day Classics.

The Ticats announced Tim Hortons Field would be at capacity Monday and the Riders followed Wednesday.

Hamilton has the highest percentage of capacity through the first half of the season, filling more than 94 per cent of the doughnut box (23,218). The Tabbies average attendance sits at 22,887, best among East Division teams.

Saskatchewan leads the league in attendance with 30,542 per game. That’s over 91 per cent capacity at Mosaic Stadium which holds 33,350 spectators for green and white home games.

With the Ticats and Riders packing their stadiums, the only game left on Labour Day weekend to fill up is the Battle of Alberta. McMahon Stadium could hold 35,400, so it might be tougher to sell out. The Stampeders have averaged 25,167 through five home dates. It equals 70 per cent of capacity.

Early sell-outs are encouraging for the league attendance.
