Bo Levi Mitchell in street clothes at Stampeders practice

Bo Levi Mitchell wasn’t in football gear for practice as the Stampeders returned from their bye week.

Mitchell was snapping for Nick Arbuckle who has filled in as the starter while the two-time CFL MOP recovers from injury.

Calgary is preparing to face Edmonton on Labour Day without their franchise quarterback.

The pectoral muscle setback caused Mitchell to miss a start for the first time since 2014. He’s already served one full stint on the six-game injured list and Calgary put him back on before the loss in Week 10 to the Montreal Alouettes.

Mitchell played the majority of the 2017 season with tears in his throwing shoulder and elbow issues. That year he managed to throw for 4,700 yards, 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading Calgary to the best record in the CFL at 13-4-1 despite the ailments. But the current pec issue has kept Mitchell on the sidelines.

Calgary saved over $100,000 on the salary cap with Mitchell needing the full span of time on the six-game injured list. The 29-year-old hopes to return to the field pain-free, which is why the Stamps are being cautious.
