Ticats Canadian DL Jamaal Westerman out for the season

Hamilton Tiger-Cats Canadian defensive end Jamaal Westerman will miss the rest of the 2019 CFL season due to a torn triceps tendon in his right arm.

Westerman had not played a game in 2019. He suffered the injury at practice earlier this week. The veteran DL was recovering from an Achilles tendon rupture suffered on September 22, 2018 against the B.C. Lions and was on scheduled to return to the Ticats active roster next weekend.

The 34-year-old was acquired by Hamilton in the Johnny Manziel trade. He played in eight games for the Ticats making 10 tackles since his arrival. Westerman made 19 tackles and three sacks in five games for the Alouettes before Montreal traded him away.

Westerman suffered a season-ending shoulder injury that ended his 2017 campaign prematurely. At the time he was tied for second in the CFL lead in sacks with seven. He spent six seasons in the NFL making 60 tackles, six sacks and one forced fumble before coming north where he was a CFL all-star in 2015, Westerman’s first year in the three-down league.
