Shaq Evans’ practice injury could be a worse setback than originally thought by the Riders.

Evans went up for a jump ball against L.J. McCray on Monday and came down with a twisted ankle.

“That was a little scary. He would be a big loss Shaq Evans for sure,” Saskatchewan head coach Craig Dickenson said.

“It’s just the way it goes sometimes, you gotta practice to get better. That fine line you walk between practice and hard and trying to take care of the guys.”

Evans produced a career-high 160 receiving yards, many with elite Ticats cover man Delvin Breax covering him. The 28-year-old has four 100-yard games out of seven so far in 2019. Overall he’s caught 29 passes for 587 yards and two touchdowns.

“Shaq didn’t practice [Tuesday]. He’s not quite right. He hurt his ankle and he couldn’t move at all,” Dickenson said.

Losing Evans for any amount of time would be a major blow for the Riders’ offence as Coday Fajardo has developed a strong rapport and trust with Saskatchewan No. 1 receiver.
