Alouettes sign Canadian LB Frederic Plesius

The Montreal Alouettes have signed Canadian linebacker Frederic Plesius.

Plesius, the Montreal native, played six games for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last season making four tackles on defence and five special teams stops.

The 31-year-old registered seven special teams tackles in seven games before missing the final 11 contests of the season due to injury in 2017. He finished second in the CFL with 23 special teams tackles in 2016 as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Plesius was selected in the second round, 10th overall in the 2012 CFL draft and played 66 games with the Ticats over four seasons registering 58 special teams tackles, 25 defensive tackles, one sack and one interception.

Montreal released national linebacker Brandon Calver making room on the roster for Plesius.
