Redblacks hoping Dominique Davis can be ready ‘next week’

Ottawa Redblacks head coach Rick Campbell feels quarterback Dominique Davis could return to the lineup sooner rather than later.

“We’re hoping the next week. He’s not doing anything yet. He’s definitely getting better,” Campbell said.

Davis was injured during Ottawa’s 36-19 loss to Montreal in Week 5. During three out of four start overall, Davis has thrown more interceptions than touchdown passes. Through four starts Davis has completed 66 per cent of his passes for 1,132 yards with three majors versus seven interceptions plus 15 carries for 76 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Jonathon Jennings started in place of Davis against Winnipeg in Week 6 completing 6-of-15 passes for 45 yards and one interception which was returned for a touchdown in a 31-1 defeat. It will be Jennings who gets the start again when Calgary comes to the nation’s capital on Thursday night.

“I don’t beat myself up but I definitely felt disgusted,” Jennings said about his first start in a Redblacks uniform.

Ottawa has lost three straight games after opening the season with a pair of wins, dropping their record to 2-3. The Redblacks must get better QB play or the team is going to suffer another loss.
