Riders have no interest in Regina native and Canadian QB Noah Picton

Noah Picton’s hometown team has no interest in signing the 2016 Hec Crighton Trophy winner.

“No.” Riders head coach Craig Dickenson said about any potential of bringing Picton in.

“We’ve got five quarterbacks, we’ve got enough quarterbacks, we’re fine. I was sorry to see Noah get cut, I was happy he played. At least they put him out there and let him play a little bit, give him a chance to show what he’s got. He’s a good football player, I’m happy for him.”

The Toronto Argonauts released Picton on Saturday, June 1. Picton played one series while going 0-for-1 in Toronto’s pre-season victory against the Montreal Alouettes last Thursday.

Picton finished his USports career with the University of Regina Rams as the all-time passing leader in Canadian University football throwing for 11,496 yards. Only six Canadian university quarterbacks have ever gone over 10,000 passing yards.

The Regina native was a star coming out of LeBoldus High School in Regina, leading the team to a provincial title in 2012. Picton attended Riders training camp in 2015 as part of the Canadian quarterback internship program. But a return to the green and white isn’t happening.
