Argos sign DL Freddie Bishop

The Toronto Argonauts have signed defensive lineman Freddie Bishop, per sources.

Bishop last played for the Memphis Express in the Alliance of American Football.

The 29-year-old played the three seasons with the Stamps from 2013 to 2015 making 60 tackles and 14 sacks while winning a Grey Cup in 2014. The 28-year-old was drawing CFL interest, but opted for the AAF to try and earn another shot in the NFL.

Bishop went unselected in the 2013 NFL draft. The Detroit Lions brought him in for a brief stint prior to him signing in Calgary that July. After flourishing in the CFL, the New York Jets signed Bishop in 2016 and he spent two seasons in the Big Apple recording 19 total tackles and one fumble recovery in nine games. The Lions had Bishop in for training camp during August 2018, but he was let go among final cuts.

Bishop should be an impact pass rusher in the CFL.
