Bombers’ O’Shea: Willie Jefferson makes a mess for opposing offences

“He’s a playmaker. He finds a way to change games – we know that firsthand – it’ll be interesting having him on our side this year,” O’Shea said on 680 CJOB with Bob Irving.

Jefferson posted a career-best sack season with 10 while recording his first two career interceptions in 2018 taking them both back for touchdowns. The 27-year-old is an elite defender in the CFL.

“He’ll fit right in. I’m looking forward to watching him because you see when you play him and when you watch film and he’s got other opponents on the ropes it’s interesting,” O’Shea said.

Jefferson has spent all five seasons in Canada in Chris Jones’ defence, two in Edmonton and three Saskatchewan. He has played in 58 CFL games making 127 tackles, 31 sacks, forcing six fumbles, intercepting two passes and scoring three touchdowns.

Winnipeg tied for first with four other teams recording 45 sacks last year. Bringing in Jefferson – the freak defender – should boost the total of quarterback takedowns in 2019.

“On a daily basis, I’m intrigued, this guy is such a tremendous athlete,” O’Shea said. “He just makes a mess everywhere he goes.”
