Josue Matías has retired following one season in the CFL.
Matías joined the Redblacks’ practice roster in June of 2018 and entered the starting line-up in October as part of a ratio change along the offensive line. He started the Grey Cup at right tackle.
Matías may not have been a household name, but his loss is a big one. The 26-year-old was expected to start at left tackle following the departure of perennial all-star SirVincent Rogers in free agency.
Ottawa currently has just one international offensive lineman under contract in 23-year-old Collin Buchanan. He was signed two weeks ago and has never played a CFL game.
Matias was a three-year starter at Florida State who spent two years with the Tennessee Titans (2015-2016) after going undrafted in 2015. His retirement leaves a gaping hole in the Redblacks’ starting line-up.
