Const. Harinder Sohi confirmed Owens is accused of assaulting a woman in a domestic-related incident but wouldn’t get in to specifics about the relationship between the two.

Owens was detained on Monday and is set to appear in court on Tuesday for a bail hearing.

The 36-year-old did not play a game in 2018.

Owens has two Grey Cup championships on his resume. He played five seasons with the Toronto Argos. His career numbers are Hall-of-Fame worthy, including a 2012 season that saw him set a league record for all-purpose yards and earn the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award.

Over nine CFL seasons with the Montreal Alouettes, Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Saskatchewan Roughriders, Owens has 521 receptions for 6,217 yards and 27 touchdowns. The three-time CFL all-star has 10 career return touchdowns.
