Argos sign LB Ian Wild

The Toronto Argonauts have signed linebacker Ian Wild, per sources.

Wild was released by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in January after playing 15 games making 12 tackles and 12 special teams stops during the 2018 season. He had been relegated largely to a special teams role with Jovan Santos-Knox taking over the starting weak-side linebacker spot for the Bombers.

Overall, Wild spent the first six seasons of his CFL career in Winnipeg. Through 67 games the 28-year-old has made 245 tackles, 60 special teams stops, eight sacks, one interception while scoring three defensive touchdowns.

After going unselected in the 2012 NFL draft, Wild signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills, but never played a down in the NFL.

Wild has the ability to start at middle or weak-side linebacker, but injuries have kept the him from reaching his full potential. Low risk, high reward potential for the Argos. If Wild can consistently stay healthy, Corey Chamblin may have found core piece on defence.
