Ricky Ray has not made a final decision on playing: Chamblin

Toronto Argonauts head coach Corey Chamblin has been in contact with Ricky Ray but says the status of the veteran quarterback remains unclear.

“Ricky’s still going through his deal. He hasn’t made his final decision, I’ve had good conversations with him talking about where he is and I told him that we’ll reach back out in February and we’ll have a conversation,” Chamblin said on 620 CKRM’s The SportsCage.

“So that’s not off the table and it’s not on the table.”

During the third quarter of the Argos home opener in 2018, Ray was chased down from behind by Calgary Stampeders defensive lineman Ja’Gared Davis, tackled and made contact with Cordarro Law as well. Ray lay on the turf for over 10 minutes as medical personnel isolated his neck, put him on a board and loaded him onto a cart. He spent two nights at Toronto Western Hospital undergoing tests and left with a brace on his neck.

Ray did not play the rest of the 2018 season.

Ray won a record fourth Grey Cup in 2017 capping a comeback season that saw the veteran passer throw for 5,546 yards – his highest total since 2008 – and 28 touchdowns while missing just one game.

Ray who has a Hall of Fame resume with over 60,000 passing yards and 324 touchdowns to his name.
