QB Jon Jennings ‘should go somewhere else’ says Lions GM Ed Hervey

B.C. Lions general manager Ed Hervey believes a new team would benefit quarterback Jonathon Jennings.

“I think Jonathon… he probably should go somewhere else. It’ll be a great opportunity for him to go explore his options and not for any other reason other than maybe a change in venue might work best for him,” Hervey told TSN’s Dave Naylor.

It seems the feeling is mutual after Jennings told the Lions he will hit the open market in February.

Hervey questioned the work ethic of quarterback Jennings and explained his reasoning last October. That all but assured 2018 would be the last for Jennings in Lions colours.

Jennings broke into the CFL with B.C. in 2015. He produced a career-best season in 2016 throwing for 5,226 yards and 27 touchdowns. But regressed in 2016 with 3,639 yards with 16 touchdowns against 19 interceptions.

When Hervey took over as GM, he negotiated a pay cut with Jennings prior to the 2018 season which saw the 26-year-old usurped as the starter by veteran Travis Lulay.
