Bombers extend young Canadian offensive lineman Michael Couture

Canadian offensive lineman Michael Couture made his first two CFL starts in 2018 and seems to be on the cusp of realizing his full potential.

That’s why the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have extended the 24-year-old through the 2019 season.

“Michael came in and was immediately inserted into the game day roster,” general manager Kyle Walters said in a statement. “To do that right out of college is not an easy feat, and he has continued to progress in so many facets of his game over his first three seasons with us. Certainly drafting and developing offensive linemen is very important for us, and we’re excited to bring Michael back for 2019.”

Couture was selected by the Bombers in the second round, 10th overall of the 2016 CFL draft. Since then he has suited up in 54 games through three seasons while playing different spots along the offensive line.

Winnipeg believes Couture can be a starting calibre big man for years to come.
