Riders Chris Jones could be a candidate for NFL job: report

NFL reporter Jason La Canfora is reporting that Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager and head coach Chris Jones could be an off-the-radar candidate for an NFL job.

In a year were teams may go to lengths and look in unique directions for a head coach, keep an eye on Chris Jones the coach / GM of Saskatchewan in the CFL. At least two NFL teams have done extensive research on the highly successful coach who has 4 Grey Cup Rings with 4 teams

Jones is 53-37 as a CFL head coach and won the 2015 Grey Cup championship with the Edmonton Eskimos. A number of NFL teams have recently had success with out-of-the-box head coaching hires, including Matt Nagy of the Chicago Bears and Sean McVay of the Los Angeles Rams.

It’s worth noting that La Canfora is a legit NFL reporter with more than 500,000 Twitter followers and significant connections within the game.

The last CFL head coach to make the jump to a top NFL job was Marc Trestman, who left the Montreal Alouettes after the 2012 season to join the Chicago Bears. He finished with a 13-19 record in two seasons. More recently, former Argonaut head coach Scott Milanovich took a job with Jacksonville Jaguars in 2017 and was promoted to offensive coordinator this season.
