Ryan Dinwiddie turns down Argos OC job, elects to stay with Stamps

The Toronto Argonauts offered the team’s offensive coordinator position to Ryan Dinwiddie, who has turned down the job, per sources.

Dinwiddie elected to stay with the Calgary Stampeders as quarterbacks coach.

Dinwiddie has spent the last three seasons working closely with Stamps star Bo Levi Mitchell and head coach Dave Dickenson. The 38-year-old earned his first coaching job with the Montreal Alouettes when current Argos general manager Jim Popp held the same position in La Belle Province. He held quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator titles while in Montreal.

Dinwiddie played five seasons as a quarterback in the CFL, three with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and two for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Dinwiddie was a star at Boise State University throwing for 4,356 yards, 31 touchdowns against five interceptions as a senior leading the Broncos to a 13-1 record in 2003. He spent the 2004 and 2005 NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears.

Retaining Dinwiddie allows the Stamps to keep a promising coaching talent after losing defensive coordinator DeVone Claybrooks, who left to become head coach of the B.C. Lions.
