Former Stampeder Brandon Browner sentenced to eight years for attempted murder

According to gossip website TMZ, former Calgary Stampeder Brandon Browner has pled no contest to attempted murder and has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Browner was arrested in July after allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s California apartment and being charged with attempted murder, first-degree residential robbery and other counts. According to TMZ, he chased the woman, dragged her and then smothered her in a carpet and her two children were present when the alleged abuse occurred. He was was also accused of stealing the woman’s Rolex watch.

The 34-year-old reportedly pled no contest to one count of attempted murder and two counts of willful child endangerment while the remaining charges were dropped. He received credit for the 300 days he’s spent in custody since his July arrest.

Browner played four seasons with Calgary from 2007 to 2011, registering 12 interceptions while being named a three-time CFL all-star. He was also a member of Calgary’s 2008 Grey Cup-winning team. He won Super Bowls with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.
