By Wednesday afternoon, the deal had been agreed to.
Hamilton head coach June Jones said earlier Wednesday that the speedy receiver has the skillset for the run and shoot offence.
“He’s been here before and had success here. I watched him on film, and he can play. Fits into what we do,” Jones said. “I didn’t really look at him until about three weeks ago when I got highlight tape on him. We had lost Jalen and were looking for a guy of that body type, that can run.”
Jones said he’s spoken to front office staff and players who were here when Sinkfield last suited up for Hamilton, including fellow receiver Brandon Banks.
“They talked very highly of him, plus Speedy liked him,” Jones said.
Sinkfield played in 34 games over three CFL seasons, registering 102 catches for 1,537 yards and 10 touchdowns. His best season came in 2015 with Hamilton when he played in 15 games and made 69 catches for 1,030 yards and six touchdowns.
Sinkfield, who was released from the Oakland Raiders practice squad on Sept. 11, played for Minnesota and the New York Jets last season and attempted to convert to defensive back in training camp this spring. He was released in August.
The Ticats have lost a couple of key receivers to injury, including Jalen Saunders (who’s done for the year with a torn ACL) and Terrence Toliver, who was added to the six-game injured list this week.
