After failed attempts to trade Adams, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats released the 25-year-old and Montreal signed him in late June. Adams started one game in July – just days after the Alouettes made a blockbuster trade for Johnny Manziel – completing 15-of-28 passes for 217 yards with an interception while rushing eight times for 72 yards and a touchdown as the Montreal crowd chanted “We want Johnny” which ‘hurt’ Adams during a 44-23 loss to Edmonton.
Adams has played in nine games over three CFL seasons with Saskatchewan and Montreal completing 59-of-111 pass attempts for 803 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions, plus adding 62 carries for 253 yards and seven majors on the ground.
Alouettes head coach Mike Sherman has said he wants quarterbacks who have similar skillsets behind Manziel and Adams fits the mould as a dual-threat pivot.
