CFL says it got replay calls right in Ticats loss to Lions

Despite concerns raised by Hamilton Tiger-Cats head coach June Jones, the CFL says it was correct on two key replay calls in the Ticats’ loss to the B.C. Lions.

The first involved a fumble in the fourth quarter that was recovered by Hamilton but was overturned after replay officials determined it was an incomplete pass. The second came on the two-point conversion that tied the game; on-field officials initially ruled that receiver Bryan Burnham failed to get a foot in bounds but that too was reversed.

The CFL rulebook states that there must be “indisputable visual evidence” to overturn a call and Jones didn’t feel either play met that standard.

The league, however, says it was right on both counts.

“We certainly take Coach June Jones’ point. They were very close calls in a very tight game,” league spokesman Lucas Barrett said in a statement. “But we have reviewed the Command Centre’s decisions and they meet our standard.”
