Argos’ Trestman doesn’t believe Duron Carter is ready to be ‘heavily targeted’

Duron Carter did not record a catch against his old team when Saskatchewan beat Toronto 30-29 on Saturday.

“He’s just in a position – I said that we’re going to try to work him in, we did a little bit more. We didn’t have him heavily targeted. We don’t think he’s ready for that,” Argos head coach Marc Trestman said.

Carter has played in two games for the double blue and is yet to put a reception on the stats sheet.

“Anytime you’re a receiver you want the ball every play, but that can’t happen in a sense. I was very happy with being in the game and that’s all you can ask for. A lot of times people get caught up in the targets and all that,” Carter said.

The 27-year-old tried to help his Argos teammates in other ways.

“All week the guys were coming into meetings asking me questions, little tidbits on Collaros and the offence and I was just trying to help as much as I can,” Carter said.

There were no harsh words exchanged between Carter and the Riders. Saskatchewan released the 2017 CFL all-star receiver in August, which surprised the talented pass catcher.

“It was all love. I got a lot of friends on that team,” Carter said. “It was good to see them, I haven’t been in Saskatchewan in about four or five weeks, so it was good to see some old friends.”
