Manziel took first-team quarterback reps at practice on Monday. He missed three days of practice last week with what the team called the “flu” but still was frustrated by his lack of playing time. Head coach Mike Sherman said he was going to have a conversation with Manziel about his public comments over not starting because he didn’t like his choice of words.
Antonio Pipkin had led Montreal to consecutive victories, but he threw four interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Lions beat the Als 32-14 in Week 14. Manziel appeared to laugh after Pipkin’s second pick-six.
Pipkin has thrown for 857 yards, one touchdown and eight interceptions completing 61 per cent of his passes while going 2-2 as a starter for the Als.
Manziel has started two games for Montreal, both losses. He has completed 27-of-46 passes for 272 yards and four interceptions. The last time Manziel played in a game was August 11 when he suffered a concussion in Ottawa.
The Alouettes play Winnipeg Friday night.
