Stampeders sign Canadian LB Cory Greenwood

The Calgary Stampeders have signed linebacker Cory Greenwood.

Greenwood tore his ACL on the first day of training camp and missed the entire 2017 CFL campaign. He was released by the Edmonton Eskimos in March 2018.

The 33-year-old played three seasons with Toronto after the Argos selected the six-foot-two, 237-pounder in the first round, third overall during the 2010 CFL draft. Greenwood has played in 20 of a possible 36 regular season games over the past two seasons, recording 103 tackles, three sacks and one forced fumble.

After winning the Presidents’ Trophy as the best defensive player in Canadian university football in 2009 while playing for Concordia, Greenwood signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in May 2010. He spent three seasons in K.C. playing all possible games – 48 – during that span, recording 34 tackles and one forced fumble while being a major contributor on special teams.
