Pipkin listed as the starter, Manziel the back up for Alouettes game against Redblacks

Depth charts aren’t always the greatest indicator of reality but the Montreal Alouettes have listed Antonio Pipkin as the starting quarterback for Friday’s game against Ottawa.

If true, Pipkin will get a third straight start even though Johnny Manziel is out of concussion protocol and returned to practice this week. Coach Mike Sherman has neglected to name a starter, but Pipkin has taken the lion’s share of snaps with the first team offence in practice.

Pipkin passed for 303 yards as Montreal beat Toronto 25-22 to end a six-game losing run last week. But the Alouettes gave up two first-round picks to acquire Manziel in a trade with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

But Sherman denied feeling pressure to start Manziel.

“I’ve never felt that pressure from anybody. My pressure is to play the right quarterback to help us win the game, that’s the only pressure I ever feel,” Sherman said.
