Former Edmonton Eskimos defender Dexter McCoil has been brought back by the San Francisco 49ers.

McCoil was waived by the 49ers with a non-football injury in May, suffering a broken foot while training. The 49ers claimed McCoil off waivers on October 9. He played in four games making eight tackles for the 49ers in 2017.
The 26-year-old was originally signed by the Los Angeles Chargers in January 2016. He played 18 games recording 26 tackles, defended five passes and intercepted another.
McCoil played two seasons for Edmonton. He made 144 tackles, intercepted nine passes and six sacks. After winning the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie award in 2014, McCoil helped the Eskimos win the Grey Cup in 2015.
