Carter contacted head coach and general manager Chris Jones to see if it was true.
So here you go only saying it once: my teammates started calling me Sat. asking me questions like “what happened” etc. I eventually text coach Jones “What’s the deal? Why my teammates asking if I’m on the team?” Get a call from him saying “thanks for your service on both sides”

During the 2017 season, Carter led the Riders in 2017 with 1,043 receiving yards and nine touchdowns (including one on defence) during the regular season, earning him the Riders Most Outstanding Player award. He re-signed for the 2018 season in January. Carter was due to make $144,000 in hard money throughout the 2018 CFL season.
Duron Carter wasn’t given any reason for his release. Was thanked for his work on both sides of the ball & told the team was moving in another direction.
Veteran contracts aren’t guaranteed until after 9th game, so #Riders arent on the hook for the balance of the year. @CFLonTSN— Farhan Lalji (@FarhanLaljiTSN) August 12, 2018
Carter is currently in Montreal on #Riders bye week. Says there was no conflict with coaches. Isnt concerned about why, more focused on his next move. i would expect it wont take him long to find a new home.
Curious if this will lead to anything with Terrell Owens. @CFLonTSN— Farhan Lalji (@FarhanLaljiTSN) August 12, 2018
It’s the second time in Carter’s career that he’s been let go during a season, the other came in October 2016 when the Montreal Alouettes cut the enigmatic receiver.
In June, Carter pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing pot at the Saskatoon airport last February. He is scheduled to stand trial in December. He pleaded guilty earlier in June to a similar offence at Winnipeg’s airport in November 2017. Carter was granted an absolute discharge.
But maybe Carter is done with football altogether.
I might be done with football man… find a job that travels around the world, something where I can be myself ♂️
