Riders head coach Jones: Manziel found out how tough the competition is in the CFL

Chris Jones has been coaching in the CFL for a long time and knows the players are high calibre and Johnny Manziel experienced that firsthand in his CFL debut.

Manziel completed 9-of-16 passes for 90 yards and four interceptions as Montreal was down 28-0 through 15 minutes and 38-3 at halftime while getting beat down 50-11 by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

“I think Johnny Manziel found out last week just how tough the competition is in our league,” Jones told Stephen Hargis of the Times Free Press.

Manziel said it was “humbling experience” and he plans to use the game as motivation as he continues his CFL career.

Jones did work Manziel out in January 2017, so he felt the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner had the potential to succeed in the CFL.
