Nik Lewis officially retiring as a Stampeder, as he should

It looks like receiver Nik Lewis, the CFL’s all-time leader in receptions, is planning to officially retire as a Calgary Stampeder this weekend.

The 36-year-old Lewis played 226 CFL games, winning two Grey Cups with Calgary, where he spent 11 seasons. He made a record 1,051 catches for 13,775 yards and 71 touchdowns. He was named a CFL all-star three times and a divisional all-star six times. Last August, he passed Geroy Simon to become the CFL’s all-time receptions leader and finishes his career with 1,051.

The Alouettes, where Lewis spent the last three seasons, announced in May that Lewis was retiring, though the player seemed less certain, saying he’d asked for his release to pursue other options.

Montreal is in Calgary on Saturday night to honouring Lewis makes perfect sense.
