Riders add big QB Jeremy Johnson

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed quarterback Jeremy Johnson.

Johnson played for the University of Auburn throwing for 2,224 yards, 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while rushing for 210 rushing yards and nine touchdowns producing a 7-4 win-loss record with the Tigers from 2013-2016. Two of those seasons he spent as a backup to current Riders defensive back Nick Marshall.

The 23-year-old went unselected in the 2017 NFL Draft and received an invite to New York Giants rookie mini-camp, but no contract offer came. He most recently played for the Columbus Lions in the National Arena League.

The 6-foot-4, 232-pound Johnson has intriguing athleticism for his size.

After placing Zach Collaros on the six-game injured list with a concussion, the Riders signed Devin Gardiner on Wednesday who joins Brandon Bridge and David Watford on Saskatchewan’s roster at the pivot position.
