Manziel’s successor at Texas A&M, QB Kenny Hill signs with Alouettes

The newest Montreal Alouettes quarterback Kenny Hill was the QB who took over the starting job at Texas A&M after Johnny Manziel departed for the NFL.

Hill broke a Manziel record in his first start for the Aggies, throwing for a school single-game 511 yards in a 52-28 upset victory against South Carolina. The nickname “Kenny Football” was starting to make the rounds among Texas A&M fans, but Hill said “Johnny Football belonged to Manziel and he wanted to be dubbed as “Kenny Trill” while the family filed for the trademark. “Trill” being a hybrid of true and real.

Hill had a bit of trill-ing ride playing in the NCAA. Despite throwing for 2,649 yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight games for the Aggies in 2014, Hill struggled as the team played tougher competition. He was replaced mid-season and ended up being suspended for two games due to an unspecified violation of team rules and athletic department policies.

The Florida native transferred to Texas Christian University where Hill threw for 6,360 yards, 40 touchdowns and 21 interceptions adding 934 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in two seasons for the Horned Frogs.

Hill signing in Montreal is a family reunion of sorts with the city, his father Ken a former Major League Baseball pitcher played three seasons for the Expos (1992-1994). Dad was an all-star in 1994 for Montreal as he led the National League in wins.

Those are two things the Alouettes could use: all-star quarterback play and some wins.
